Spring Has Sprung

One of my favorite things to do once is starts to get warm is to plant something! Your kids will love this too.

Lesson Subject: Spring

Lesson Object: To teach an appreciation for and understanding of how things grow.

Song Ideas: Popcorn Popping (pg. 242 Children's Song Book)
On a Golden Springtime (pg. 88 CSB)
Rain is Falling All Around (pg. 241 CSB)

Scriptures: 1Nephi 18:24
Genesis 2:5

Activity Idea: Materials needed:
1. 1 container per person(any kind of container that will hold soil and
water will do - Styrofoam cup, plastic cup, yogurt container......)

2. Seeds for each person(I prefer to use wheat - it grows quickly and easily)

3. Soil

4. Water

Have/help each person fill their cup 3/4 full of soil(potting soil works the best, but dirt from your yard will work too). Have each person place their seeds on top of the soil and then cover with a small amount of soil until the seeds are completely covered. Add a little bit of water, place in a sunny spot and wait for them to grow! Water when the soil looks dry.

Extension Ideas:

1. Go an a nature hike
2. Buy some plants to plant in your yard or in a container to place in your yard.
3. If you have a garden - have your children help plant something in the garden.

Treat Ideas:

1. Try different kind of seeds(wheat, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds)
2. Dirt cups(chocolate pudding with crushed Oreos on top)
